Vintage Delights: Celebrate Your Nation With Dessert

I have to admit that this post is the result of Massive indecision on my part. Honestly, there are just too many great ideas for desserts with patriotic flair and I just got too excited which led, naturally, to an inability to decide what to bake up for y’all on this weekend of patriotism in Canada and the United States. As such, here are some of my ideas for celebrating your country with style, festiveness, and baked goods…

One of my all time favorite ways to turn your average cupcake in to a festive masterpiece is to dust it with sprinkles. I’m a big fan of sprinkles…remember?

I’m also an enormous fan of celebrating your nation with the colors of your respective flag. Don’t roll your eyes, vintage baking is all about overt symbolism. As such, might I recommend Red Velvet Cupcakes with Milky White Frosting (and a few more sprinkles) or making the Greek Yogurt and Cherry Parfaits and, if you’re down south, adding a few blueberries into the layers.

Might I also recommend making my favorite Cream Biscuits and filling them with either a mixture of raspberries, strawberries and/or blueberries. Topped with some Sweetened Whipped Cream, this dessert is one of the easiest and, if I might be so bold as to add, most delicious ways to celebrate your nation in a extremely festive and color coordinated(!) way.

Happy Canada Day Long Weekend and to those down south, Happy July Fourth y’all!
