Vintage Delights: Mrs. Beeton Discusses Balance
I was recently lent a copy of Mrs. Beeton’s Family Cookery. The cookbook/household manual is a lovely book from around 1915, that is chalk-a-block full of housewifely advice. Here is a little diddy that I felt still resonates today — it’s all about balance my friends.
A woman’s home should be first and foremost in her life, but if she allow household cares entirely to occupy her thoughts, she will become narrow in her interests and sympathies, a condition not conducive to domestic happiness.
